Over the recent couple of years, the people over at Transcend have managed to come up with quite an impressive number of external and portable storage products, most of which combine a fairly OK external design with more or less OK technical features. And the latest such device to arrive on the market is the StoreJet 25F, a portable HDD unit that packs up to 500GB of storage space in a black, sleek and attractive casing.
Quite obviously, the external design is the first thing that will draw anyone's attention to the StoreJet 25F. Hence, the portable HDD has a designer gloss diamond pattern and lustrous metallic finish, making it the ideal data storage solution for those looking for a bit of elegance in the products they use on a daily basis.
Besides its “eye-candy” design, the device also sports more functional design features, such as anti-slip rubber feet, which provide a stable base for resting on a table or a computer case. Similar to most other devices of this type on the market, this one connects to a host computer via a USB 2.0 interface, which means that it can attain maximum data transfer speeds of up to 480 Mbps.
Furthermore, the StoreJet 25F comes pre-loaded with the StoreJet elite data-management tools that feature Website AutoLogin, Mobile Favorites with NoTrace Internet browsing, Secret-Zip file encryption, Mobile E-mail, Online Update and intelligent backup scheduling, security, and file compression functions. And since versatility is a very important feature of any portable storage solution, the device from Transcend also supports pretty much all of the operating systems around, including here Windows 2000/XP/Vista, Mac and Linux.
Sadly, there's no word yet on just how much the 500GB StoreJet 25F is going to cost, but it's probably going to be relatively affordable, since Transcend has a pretty good track record as far as the pricing of its products is concerned.
