Since every manufacturer out there drools at the multi-touch capabilities of some Apple products, Cypress Semiconductor has decided to throw them a bag of hope with a new TrueTouch technology that can do multi-touch quite well.
“With the current buzz around tablet PC products, this technology is one of the hottest new capabilities from Cypress,” said Dhwani Vyas, vice president of the User Interface Business Unit at Cypress.
“Our TrueTouch touchscreen solution was the industry’s first to offer multi-touch all-point tracking of unlimited fingers for the mobile phones and our extension of this technology into the emerging market of medium and large screen touchscreens is a natural place for Cypress to provide technology leadership again. We continue to break new ground with features and capabilities that empower designers to bring their user interface visions to fruition,” added Dhwani Vyas.
Tablet PCs will surely be among the many types of products affected by multi-touch technology in the future, but this Windows 7-based and functional system of Touch Sensitive commands from Cypress could find its way all the way up the byte chain, to desktop systems.
This new all-point capable touch system has been tested on a tablet-sized touchscreen and the results are quite impressive. One or many fingers usage is possible and even the sync is done in real-time. Cypress Semiconductor might have hit the jackpot with the TrueTouch solution as they say it will be functional on screens from 7 to 17 inches. It is also capable of full multi-touch.
As you will see in the final part of the video, the TrueTouch allows its user to manipulate multiple files at the same time, while respecting the random motion of every separate file. There was no lag or any kind of slowness in the last part either.
Below you can see the TrueTouch from Cypress Semiconductor in action.
