For quite a lot of people, the iPhone and the possibility to develop certain applications for it have proved to be nothing short of a gold mine, many such developers gaining instant fame and success (not to mention getting rich almost over night). Unfortunately, while some of the respective apps are in fact quite useless, most people toy with them for a couple of times and then abandon them for the next cool thing.
Nevertheless, that's not at all the case with the DSLR Camera Remote for iPhone, created by OneOnOne Software, which allows photographers using a supported DSLR connected to a Wi-Fi-enabled computer to remotely control the settings of the camera, fire the shutter, review images, and even get a live viewfinder preview. For the time being, Canon EOS DSLRs are the only digital cameras supported by the application, but it seems that
Nikon digital single-lens reflex cameras are next on the list.
The combo between this application and the DSLR can prove to be a match made in heaven, since it provides digital photographers with a new level of freedom when shooting camera angles where it is difficult to see through the viewfinder, self-portraits, or events where multiple cameras are set up and the photographer just can't be behind them all.
"We are very excited about what this application offers the photography community," said Craig Keudell, president of OneonOne Software. "DSLR Camera Remote for iPhone allows photographers the opportunity to get out from behind the camera and interact with their subjects while still maintaining full control of the technical details."
Of course, the fact that the Professional version of this app costs around 20 US dollars (just $2 for the Lite version, though) might deter some users, but it's very likely that serious photographers (most of them also being iPhone owners) might give it a try.
