MicroStation SSD is Buffalo's latest Solid State Drive solution for travelers that have some extra data to carry along with their usual luggage. Launched in Europe, unlike other technologies that Buffalo likes to keep for the Asian public only, this is a drive that fits in the palm of your hand. Hence the name Micro, duh!

Paul Hudson, Northern European Sales Director, Buffalo Technology, said, “The SSD technology incorporated into Buffalo’s latest drive is truly innovative and has allowed us to combine style and portability with efficiency and reliability, making it a pleasure to use. Still not a mainstream consumer product, the MicroStation SSD portable drive is ideal for early adopters.”

Everybody likes to talk only good things about stuff they make or build; this is why the Sales Director mentioned something about style. Well, to be honest, you couldn't tell it apart from other 10,000 or so models of SSDs out there, as it has a simple black, shiny case like most of them. What is on the interior is what matters, so that you know why you would get this particular Solid State disk drive.

Buffalo released two models of SSDs, one with 32 GB capacity and one that can store double the data compared to its sibling. You guessed it, it has 64 GB capacity. The SHD-PE32U2/BK-EU and the SHD-PE64U2/BK-EU, as they like to call them, come with Windows and Mac compatibility, TurboUSB tech that will enhance the speed of file transfers and a Secure Lock Ware software that keep your data safe as long as you are a Windows PC user. The producers say something, vaguely, about “low power consumption for mobile laptops.” No further details were provided as to how exactly it achieves a lower power consumption.

The SHD-PE32U2/BK-EU costs 99.99 pounds sterling and the larger, second model costs 179.99 pounds sterling. Both will be available sometime this month.
