Because most people are either at home or at work and rarely in between, Synology thinks that it is a good idea to bring new
NAS boxes designed especially for these two environments.
The one you can bring
home to your wife is the DiskStation DS110j. It has only one Ethernet port but gives you the option to connect multiple USB devices, via the three USB ports. Only 128 MB of Ram available for this unit, while its processor capacity is not above 800 Mhz.
The NAS box that you like to use only when at work and that your wife probably doesn't even know about is the DS1010+. (Not only is it double rated as a 10, but it is also a 10+. Good choice!) This NAS box from Synology will keep you connected even better than the one for home usage. It has five HDD bays, unlike on the one at home, double the processor size with a new Intel Atom D510 dual-core at 1.66 Ghz, which is actually the nettop version of the Atom N450 and also provides RAM extension to up to 3 GB. It comes with just 1 GB, like the DiskStation DS110j.
They even say that it will be five times more
efficient than the previous model DS509+. The DiskStation DS1010+ supports RAID setups and has two dual gigabit Ethernet ports.
Now, I do not know why you would bother switching between these two. Both are DLNA compatible and offer multiple USBs or other external drives to be connected. I guess some people just aren't happy with what they've got.
You can find these two products in Canada and the U.S. and the price for the DiskStation DS110j without any storage is $150 USD. The DS1010+ is priceless we suppose, because the producers don't mention it.
We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there.
