Ultrasone launched another of its not at all cheap products for connoisseurs or whatever you want to call the people who can afford stuff like this. Indeed, as headphones go, these babies are as luxurious as you can get. The good thing about devices such as these is that the manufacturer can't afford not to have some really nice technological gimmicks running under their hood. But that doesn't change the fact that you pay more for the way they look and feel to the touch than for the actual technical advantages the headphones have.
These Edition 8s use the technology called S-Logic Plus, which is a good thing, or, as the Ultrasone press release puts it, S-Plus Logic offers an "impartial acoustic feeling that allows the listener even more of a spacious tonal perception." But such a benefit pales in comparison to the Ethiopian sheepskin covering the interior of the ear cups; the outer ones are doused in Ruthenium, which means that Ultrasone's Edition 8 headphones have now something in common with the Parker 51 pen.
Apparently, one can listen to music “comme il faut” only after an animal has been skinned in Africa. Maybe it will bring good luck to the user, who knows. Anyway, you have to pay $1,449 if you want your ear lovingly cushioned by skin from a dead sheep.
Here are some other, more basic features of these headphones: 30 Ohm impedance, 40 mm driver size (plated with Titanium), NdFeB magnet, 6 to 42.000 Hz frequency range, 6 db SPL, 260g weight, 1.2m USC cord length, 4m USC extension cable length, ULE technology. Oh, and the 3.5/6.3mm adapter is gold plated, as well as the 3.5mm plugs.
If you buy one of these, be careful not to rub them, or maybe a genie will come out, and you know how
they are.
