I don't know if you've heard, but it appears that there are people in this world that can lose a laptop. I am not saying that thieves don't exist, I am aware that if you are unfortunate enough, you can have your laptop stolen, especially on abroad trips, but how many of you have managed so far to actually lose a laptop? Not many, I presume.

For the fewer rest of you and the unfortunate mugged ones, V7 has introduced some new life time warranty laptop locks for data protection. It is bad enough that you get your laptop stolen, but when it is the company's laptop that contains precious information such as pictures of your drunk boss at the Christmas party, the losses are inestimable.

“The V7 Laptop Security Locks are the ideal choice for both commercial and consumer applications to help ensure the security of valuable hardware and data,” said Robert Forster, director of product marketing for Ingram Micro’s Private Label division. “End-users and customers of value-added resellers alike will find peace of mind in the security, quality and cost savings of these products, fully backed by Ingram Micro’s powerful distribution network and reputation for service.”

So, V7 has teamed up with Ingram Micro to produce Laptop Security Locks that can be used on PCs or projectors as well. These products simply come with a lock slot that can be protected with the help of a key (the SLK500-8N) or combination thingy (the SLC500-8N). The locks are compatible with all Kensington lock slots present in all models of notebooks on the market. You get a 5-foot cable made from galvanized steel covered with a scratch-free plastic coating that will not make you look paranoid at home, nor at work.

The V7 Combination Laptop Security Lock retails for $24.99, while the V7 Key Security Lock is a little more expensive at $34.99. These are MSRPs and I almost forgot to mention that the key-based model comes with two keys. If you can use a laptop, you are surely able to lose a small key, so enjoy the spare.
