Hey, look at the VAIO will you?

So, how many of you out there wonder exactly what ultra-thin laptop will be using SanDisk's modular SSD (solid state drive)? Well, it doesn't matter because I will tell you anyway. Sony has decided that SanDisk's modular pSSD Gen2 solid state drive will be the one offering its new ultra-thin VAIO X the power it needs to blow the competition out of the water.

But first a little something from Doreet Oren, director of product marketing, solid state drives, SanDisk, regarding Sony having selected its SSD in order to be added to the VAIO X, “The release of Sony's VAIO X symbolizes a market shift towards pioneering flash-based laptop designs, eliminating the weight and size constraints of the legacy hard disk drive. […] The SanDisk pSSD drive enables laptops to be thinner and lighter, while eliminating the mechanical slow downs and malfunctions most commonly attributed to the hard disk drive.”

As you pretty well know, the advantage of using Solid State Drives is that they have no moving parts and therefore are less suspect to being damaged or sporting errors. SSDs also offer an increase in speed, being about 10 times faster than a normal hard disk drive. These particular SSDs offer a bit of extra power thanks to the use of nCache technology that boosts random write performance by up to three times over steady state performance.

Now, something from Jim McGregor, analyst at In-Stat, a Reed Business independent industry research firm, “The selection of SanDisk pSSD drives by tier-1 OEMs for the newest small, thin and light-weight laptop designs is a vote of confidence for not only SanDisk solutions, but also for the potential of SSDs to move the computing market light years forward. […] PC OEMs understand the performance and power consumption benefits of SSDs and are working hard to bring these solutions quickly and affordably to the end user.”

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there.
