Portable USB
hard drives are not exactly hard to find nowadays. Just go to your nearest IT shop and you'll probably find something you will like. Something that you just connect to your PC and it allows you to backup your system in no time, some even displaying available free space and drive name. So, what is the difference between those and Verbatim's latest portable USB hard drive? Well, InSight displays disk size and name even when you do not have it plugged in.
“The new enclosure design for InSight
Portable Hard Drives adds a touch of elegance to the external hard drive product category,” says Charles Klinker, Verbatim’s Director of Marketing, HDD Products. “Users have the option to personalize their drive’s name, e.g., TUNES&PICS, which, along with the free space, shows on the 32 x 128-pixel display even when the drive is unplugged from the user’s computer. The ability to quickly glance at several drives and identify the one that has pictures of the kids, your music collection or video library, for example, adds a level of convenience not previously available in portable hard drives.”
The InSight comes in 320GB and 500GB capacities and includes Nero BackItUp Essentials that is essentially an automatic backup system and features Nero's easy to use graphic user interface that makes sure users will know what and when to do in order to protect and backup their files. The drives have a spinning speed of 5400 rpm, an 8MB of cache memory and, thanks to its USB 2.0 connectivity, it achieves transfer rates of up to 480MB per second.
It works with Windows Vista, XP, 2000 and versions beyond Mac OS 9.x and the 320GB version is priced at 119.99 USD. As for the 500GB drive, 149.99 USD is the MSRP with which the drive has been tagged.
