Nowadays, versatility has become an extremely important issue for just about any type of product, from whatever field of the consumer electronics market, including that of storage. And that's exactly the case with Verbatim's latest products, the Quad Interface Desktop Hard Disk Drives, which, as their name says it, feature no less than four different types of interfaces, plus some pretty impressive storage capacities on the side.

Thus, the new desktop hard drives from Verbatim come packed with just about every type of interface one might need, namely USB 2.0, FireWire 400, FireWire 800 and eSATA II (external Serial ATA II). Practically, with these four interfaces, one can connect the HDD with just about any type of computing system, be it a Mac, PC, notebook or netbook. Furthermore, the data transfer speeds provided by each of these interfaces is quite impressive, ranging between 400 Mbits/s (50 MB/s) for FireWire 400 and 3.0 GB/s (300MB/s) for eSATA II.

Now, even if it's not the main selling point of the new devices from Verbatim, the storage capacity is quite important and worth talking about. Thus, the company has pushed two different versions onto the market, one packing 500 GB, while the other 1 TB of storage space, provided by 3.5-inch, 7200 RPM HDDs. According to the manufacturer, the large amounts of storage make the drives quite a good solution for “audio, video, digital photography and music professionals as well as graphics applications where capacity, performance and reliability are essential.”

Even if we're talking about desktop-grade units, Verbatim’s new Quad-interface Desktop HDDs are quite easy to move around, since they measure 8.7 x 5.9 x 1.5 inches, at a weight of around 3.3 lbs. Additionally, it's also important to mention that they're housed in a durable aluminum case, which has been equipped with a silent cooling fan.

The two Quad Interface desktop HDDs from Verbatim are already available in stores and sell for around US$179.99 (the 500GB version) and $249.99 (the 1TB drive), which are some pretty decent price points, given the devices' overall features.
