Solid state disks based on SandForce controllers have come to rule to market when it comes down to pure speed and since the company has just announced their second generation of SSD processors, many solid storage manufacturers have started to announce their future solutions based on the SF-2000 controller chip, Viking Modular Solutions being the latest do so.
Although it didn't specifically say which one s of their products will actually get the
SF-2500 and SF-2600 second-generation SSD processors, Viking Modular stated that they will introduce this new controller chip into its product portfolio, with new solutions (available in multiple form-factors) ready for qualification in the first quarter 2011.
For those of you that missed our previous
report regarding this second-generation SandForce SSD processors, these will come equipped with a native 6Gb/s SATA III interface and are expected to deliver 60K random read and write IOPS, 500 MB/s sequential read and write while also using the DuraClass technology that makes due without a DRAM memory buffer and promises to deliver improved reliability and endurance.
A native SATA to SAS bridge also comes as standard in the SF-2600 together with larger-than-512B sectors support, while AES-256 and double encryption as well as an enhanced ECC error correction engine are available in both the SF-2500 and SF-2600.
