Despite the fact that the most advanced, full HD projectors are able to provide a cinematographic experience almost equal to that one can enjoy in front of a plasma or LCD TV (and sometimes, even a superior one), their price points inevitably lead them to losing the battle against the other two types of display solutions mentioned above. However, it would seem that a company called Vivitek is quite willing to change all that, by providing a
Full HD projector right under the $1,000 mark.
According to
Twice, Vivitek plans to roll out the H1080FD FullHD projector in the US starting with August, at an estimated retail price of around $999, which should grant it a fighting chance against many of the other similar solutions available on the market.
As its name clearly suggests, what we're dealing with here is a
1080p projector. The device is based on Texas Instruments' S450 chip/light-engine design with Dark Chip II technology, and is able to deliver 1,800 lumens of brightness and a 5,000:1 contrast ratio. Not exactly high-end features, but they're probably enough for the large majority of consumers out there.
Furthermore, the projector's built-in lamp is rated as having an estimated functioning life of around 3,000 hours, while Vivitek's design makes it easy for users to access the bulbs and replacements, need be.
Finally, it's important to mention the fact that this projector offers a fairly OK assortment of connectivity options, including here two HDMI inputs, composite video, S-video, and component video inputs, RS-232c data control and a 12v trigger.
Of course, it remains to be seen whether Vivitek's H1080FD
FullHD projector will manage to prove successful with consumers or not, but taking into account the fact that most people are very careful with what they spend their money on nowadays, the answer is most likely a positive one.
