Christmas holidays always come with various surprises and bonuses. I mean, after working an entire year, people deserve a bit of extra credit for being one year closer to their death. In order to empower people with information just in time for the holiday season, Vodafone UK has launched a Pre-Pay Modem for fast and reliable mobile broadband.
With respect to the portable nature of the device, the company has named it the “TopUP and Go” modem, pricing it at 39 pounds. The good news is that 15 out of these 39 pounds represent 1GB worth of credit, which won't disappear into thin air if you don't use it within the first months. The credit can be used anytime and anywhere there's a 3G signal.
1GB worth of credit is about as good as 30 hours of web browsing, so if we do a little math here and assume the average person surfs the Internet for about 2 hours a day, we find out that you actually get 15 days worth of browsing.
Although the bandwidth is rated at 3.6Mbps, if you've ever taken an interest in ISP services, you'll know the maximum speed is more like tease than a reality. Users should expect about 1-2Mbps average speeds when downloading or uploading files. If you're using a netbook and are constrained by the storage limitations, you'll be happy to know that the modem can also be used as a 4GB memory stick.
Mobile Internet has become a reality over the past 2 years and GSM service providers are now taking on home based Internet Service Providers by providing broadband mobile solutions at reasonable prices. In the end this can only be good for the consumer, since prices will be lowered in order to win clients.
