If yesterday we saw Lexus giving us another sneak peek at their electrical bike concept with hybrid features, now, it is time for another major car manufacturer to show their prototype of electric bike. I am sure the economic crisis is not that bad and it seems a little too early, if you ask me, for car companies to start switching to building bikes.
Leaving all jokes aside, the Auto China 2010 show has featured the Bik.e concept, which reflects the way Volkswagen sees an electric bike. There is also a video with the Bik.e in action, in case the picture doesn't satisfy you.
Regarding the general aspect of the bike, you might see it being a little too concave for anybody's tastes, really, not to mention the fact that it is rather small. Well, because the Volkswagen Bik.e is part of this company's electric-mobility program, they have added a portability/easy to store twist to their concept. Which is kind of cool, if you like storable bicycles. We have seen other electric bikes going for similar design characteristics and it is good that there will be more such means of transportation to choose from.
And according to Autoblog, it appears that VW is actually planning to commercialize this pedal-less electrical bike. No pricing info yet, but the small Bik.e is known to be able to take you on 20 kilometer (12.5 mile) rides without any effort on your behalf.
They say it is more like an extension to your car, which might prove useful if you run out of gas on a very unpopular road in the middle of nowhere, with the nearest station in range of this electric mobility gadget. Its batteries are even rechargeable from the DC power source of a car, besides the regular AC ones.
There will be no need for a helmet while riding it, as the official top speed of this thing is of only 20 Km/h. Enjoy the movie after the break (and after the first part with the dancing, of course).
We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
