I have always thought that law enforcement agencies have the coolest gadgets available and although the HardCopy 3P and DriveWiper 3 don't really come as something out of 007's arsenal I can certainly think of some situations where these tools would have come in handy to me.
Built by Voom Technologies, these portable devices actually have very different usage patterns, the HardCopy 3P being designed to duplicate drives at an impressive speed while the DriveWiper 3 gets rid of all the data that is stored on the drives.
I said drives because the Drive Wiper can sanitizes up to three HDDs at once, at speeds of up to 7.1 GB/minute per drive while also being compatible with the Department of Defense (DoD 5220.2-M) and
U. S. Navy (NAVSO P-5239-10) specifications in order to assure forensic soundness when recycling or disposing hard drives with highly sensitive data.
Moving over to the HardCopy 3P, this small and lightweight (under 1 lb.) device can be taken directly to the suspect computer and quickly images the hard drive, coming with two destination ports in order to create two duplicates simultaneously, one to be analyzed and one for back-up.
While it duplicates data at speeds up to 6 GB/minute the HC3P automatically handles hidden areas of the drive, resulting in a perfect bit-for-bit copy of the original disk, the HardCopy 3P also allowing its operator to run a MD5 and SHA256 verification to ensure the forensic validity of the duplicates before leaving the crime scene.
"One of our primary goals here at Voom is to ensure that forensic evidence is easily and speedily collected by examiners, is legally indisputable and products meet the budgetary needs of our already over-burdened
law enforcement agencies.
We strive to make it easy for law enforcers to put the perpetrators of
crimes against naive and innocent victims behind bars," said Voom's CEO, David Biessener.
Unfortunately, Voom Technologies didn't announce any prices for their devices, although the company states these were designed with the “current economic climate and budget constraints” in mind.
