The developments in the recent years regarding LED technology have made this tech available for the consumer markets and brought it into the homes of those that are interested in preserving the planet's resources. Now, this research has reached the point where we can talk about
OLED lighting solutions for the modern day house. This sounds very good, as we all know OLEDs are even more energy efficient than LEDs, but don't think they will be as affordable
as them. Especially not the new SOL decorative chandelier from WAC Lighting.
This chandelier using only organic LED panels for emitting light is uniquely designed, with the Sun and ancient tribal designs as a theme and will be showcased at the 2010 LightFair International. It is a product targeted at the luxury market, built out of fine materials and employing high-end technology in order to brighten the atmosphere in your house.
"The concept fixtures we exhibited last year were created primarily to inspire the design community about the possibilities of the new OLED technology," explains Shelley Wang, President of WAC Lighting. "SOL, our new decorative chandelier, is our first complete Organic LED fixture introduction. We believe that the inconceivably thin curved planes of the complete design, and the incorporated glare-free adjustable Organic LED panels, will capture considerable attention."
Unfortunately, we don't know the price for one yet, but we do know that the OLED panels the SOL employs are adjustable in order for its users to manage the lighting distribution and that it is this company's first lighting solution of this kind.
WAC Lighting used 2.1 millimeter thin organic LED panels called ORBEOS.
The ORBEOS are built by OSRAM Opto Semiconductors, are fully dimmable and can deliver a uniform area of glare-free light. The price will probably be announced at the 2010 LightFair International.
