Wilson Audio is quite well-known for manufacturing all sorts of high-end audio systems that target specifically the audiophile market, rolling out, over time, a fairly high number of such systems. And now, the company is back with yet another very impressive such system, namely the MAXX Series 3, which builds upon the successful platform of the Series 2 but adds a couple of fresh developments, including a brand new midrange driver, initially developed for the Alexandria Series 2 speakers.
According to Wilson Audio's statement, their design team split the single upper module into two discreet units and incorporated Aspherical Propagation Delay. They added a slightly simplified version of the new midrange driver developed for Alexandria Series 2. Then, all-new crossovers were designed to capitalize on the performance of the fresh driver.
And the result is a superb towering speaker system, which will fit pretty much any home decor and also please the ears of audiophiles and normal users alike. The system includes two woofers (13 and 10.5-inches, respectively) encased in a rear-ported enclosure, as well as two 6.75-inch midrange speakers, also featuring a rear-ported enclosure. Last, but certainly not least, comes the 1-inch inverted dome tweeter, which sports a sealed enclosure.
The audio system features a sensitivity level of 91 dB at 1 watt (2.0V) at one meter at 1kHz, a nominal impedance of 4 ohms, 3 ohms minimum, while the minimum amplifier power is of 15 Watts per channel. Furthermore, the frequency response is of +/- 3 dB 20 Hz - 21 kHz.
Installing the Wilson Audio MAXX Series 3 audio system might prove to be a bit tricky, given the fact that this thing measures 67 13/16 inches (172.25 cm) in height, 16 1/8 inches (40.95 cm) in width and 24 1/4 inches (61.61 cm) in depth, at an overall weight of 410 pounds (187 kilos). Purchasing them might pose some problems as well, given the fact that these things sell for around 68,000 US dollars a piece.
