The global positioning system (or GPS) has become extremely important nowadays, with more and more people using it in order to navigate their way through unknown regions or to find the shortest route to their home. Besides PNDs, there are numerous other applications for this particular technology, one of the most interesting being the Approach G5, unveiled at this year's CES, a device that might help improve one's golf game simply because it provides very accurate information regarding the player's position on the course, as well as what the respective player might expect.
That's just one of the many features the Approach G5 comes pre-loaded with. Thus, for example, the device sports two different functioning modes, namely Play and Preview. While in Play mode, golfers will be able to see the detailed course maps, including here precise information regarding the distance towards certain points of interest, such as fairs ways, hazards and greens.
Furthermore, as the game advances and one moves further onto the course, the Approach G5 will continuously update the info, some of which, combined with the player's own experience and knowledge, might actually ensure the fact that the ball lands exactly where it was meant to. The device will be able to measure the length of each shot, and even keep the score via the built-in digital scorecard.
Plus, if, for some reason, you can't actually hit the course, this G5 can come in handy for other purposes as well, as for example while watching golf tournaments on TV, because you'll be able to preview the entire course in a very fast and easy manner. That's what the whole Preview mode is all about. The Approach G5 comes equipped with a 3-inch touchscreen display and is extremely portable, since it weighs around 6.8 ounces and is powered by two AA batteries. Unfortunately, it's not exactly what one might call affordable, since it retails for around 500 US dollars, which is a rather spicy price point, but, then again, golf equipment doesn't really come cheap, does it, now?
