Windows Phone 7 rumors stirred up

The rumor mill regarding the upcoming operating system for mobile phones from Microsoft is starting to spin faster and faster as the MWC (Mobile World Congress) draws near, so we'll be talking quite a lot on this issue over the next couple of weeks. Of course, these are only rumors until the Redmond-based giant decides to make a decisive move and to actually deliver the long promised operating system, but they do paint a fairly interesting picture of what we should expect from the future phones running this OS.

The latest info regarding the forthcoming mobile product from Microsoft comes from PPCGeeks, which has received some pretty hot tips regarding Windows Phone 7, which will apparently be the name of this future OS. The official unveiling will indeed be at the MWC, although the first devices running the new system won't apparently be out until September 2010.

Furthermore, another piece of info that confirms past rumors is that the overall user interface will be quite similar to the one provided by the Zune HD, which, as you might remember from our review of the Microsoft portable media player, is a very fast and friendly one. Also, sadly, there will be no Flash support right from the start, albeit that might be implemented at a later date.

There's more bad news, though. So, apparently, the new OS won't support multi-tasking, and neither will it allow users to install applications from SD cards, but only after downloading them from the marketplace. On the other hand, the software will provide full integration with the Zune services, as well as Full XBOX Gaming Integration, a feature sure to attract many fans of Microsoft's gaming console.

The mixed blessings continue, since, while the whole Xbox thing is fine and dandy, the fact that no on-top OEM Interfaces will be supported, meaning that, once they adopt the Windows Phone 7, phone manufacturers will have to stick to it and will not be able to implement their own solutions. Not particularly attractive, is it, now?

Anyway, it remains to be seen just how things will evolve, but it seems that Microsoft has decided to finally develop a competitive product in the mobile field as well, and we're really looking forward to its MWC launch.
