If you haven't heard of the name “Nubeo” before, well, you'll be definitely hearing about it from now on. You'll probably ask why and the answer is that the Swiss watchmaker going by the name of Nubeo has drawn on the image of the Black Mamba and Kobe Bryant’s inspiration to produce its most recent and fascinating creation, the Black Mamba.
The Black Mamba project emerges from the collaboration between Nubeo and Kobe Bryant, with the shared goal of creating a timepiece capable of bringing together the extraordinary values of sports and luxury watchmaking.
The Black Mamba defies any pre-established notions regarding sports watches, combining state of the art technology and blending of materials. A true masterpiece of watchmaking architecture, the 131 components of the Black Mamba case (touted as the most complex watch case ever engineered), draw out the full aesthetic potential of the most innovative materials, blending Ceramic, Grade 5 Titanium and Rubber.
Among the most striking features of the Black Mamba is the matte finish of its surfaces, along with DLC (Diamond-like Carbon) treatments that confer added strength to the components, while providing the Black Mamba with a sophisticated and fascinating black finish.
With a diameter of 48 mm, this self-winding mechanical watch is equipped with the Valjoux 7750 caliber. The Black Mamba is also available in Ultimate versions, adorned with black sapphires on the flange or bezel.
The high-end watch brand known especially for its jellyfish-shaped watches, has teamed up with the basketball star to create a limited-edition line of high-tech sport watches starting at about $21,000 and topping out at $285,000. The Black Mamba series - a play on Mr. Bryant's nickname - will be unveiled this coming week at Baselworld, the watch and jewelry show held annually in Basel, Switzerland, and will go on sale in the U.S. this fall, being the watchmaker's American debut.
However, if you live in the US and you can't wait that long until you can get your hands on the Black Mamba, the water resistant (up to 100 meters) timepiece will become available to the European public starting this June, selling for a few hundreds over $22,000.
