Despite the fact that the SOHO segment does represent an increasingly important market, the truth of the matter is that the large corporation office environment is the place where we're bound to meet the true multifunction “workhorses.” And that's exactly the segment Xerox targets with its latest offerings, namely the Phaser 7500 color laser printer, WorkCentre 6400 color multifunction printer, WorkCentre 7400 color multifunction series and the WorkCentre 4250 black-and-white multifunction printer just introduced.

“We’ve been hard at work bringing our advanced MFP and printer technologies to our entire product line, delivering increased productivity to workgroups of all sizes,” said Rick Dastin, president, Global Products Delivery Group, Xerox Corporation. “These new desktop products now have the same security features and workflow ease of use as our console machines.”

And now, let's see exactly what Xerox had done in order to attain the goal mentioned by Mr. Dastin. So, the first product presented by Xerox is the Phaser 7500 color printer, which allows small and mid-sized workgroups to attain professional-quality features like Adobe PostScript 3, PANTONE-approved color tables and 1200 x 1200 dpi resolution. The device has a paper capacity of up to 2,100 sheets and offers support for up to 13x18-inch paper and heavy media for full-bleed prints, thus making it a very good solution for posters, brochures and business cards. It's available right now through the usual Xerox channels and retails for around 2,100 US dollars.

Next in line comes the WorkCentre 6400 color multifunction printer, which offers quick faxing, scanning, printing and copying functionality, 32 ppm color and 37 ppm black-and-white print speeds, as well as the fast retrieval of documents with scan to e-mail and network, plus Internet and server faxing. Furthermore, the 6400's Print Around feature makes sure that if one job is held up due to lack of resources, like a specific paper size, other jobs will continue to print. The WorkCentre 6400 is also readily available for $4,299.

Next in line comes the WorkCentre 7400 color multifunction series, formed out of the 7425, 7428 and 7435 models. These devices can be used for printing, copying, scanning and faxing, with speeds up to 35 ppm in color and black-and-white. They make use of Xerox’s Emulsion Aggregate High Gloss (EA-HG) toner, which produces smaller, more consistent toner particles that allow for sharper 1200 x 2400 dpi image quality, and also incorporate Auditron and Xerox Standard Accounting, which regulate and track color usage, giving users the ability to manage costs by choosing when, where and how much color they need. Pricing starts at $11,995.

Last, but certainly not least, comes the WorkCentre 4250 black-and-white multifunction printer, which packs the powerful capabilities of an enterprise-level black-and-white MFP into a compact design. It provides increased efficiency and security with network authentication, hard disk overwrite and fax forward to e-mail, while its advanced multifunction capabilities include secure 45 ppm network printing and copying, and color scanning and faxing. Pricing starts somewhere in the vicinity of 2,200 US dollars.
