As the number of devices crammed-up within our homes is increasing almost on a yearly basis, the perspective of purchasing a universal remote, designed to control them all from just one spot becomes more and more attractive. As some of you might know, we've had the chance to test such a thing (the
Harmony One from Logitech), but what we'll talk about as follows is something a bit different, namely the Xsight Touch Universal Remote Control presented by the One for All company.
In fact, the Xsight Touch is built using the same general principle as its Logitech counterpart, namely a 2.2-inch color touchscreen, accompanied by a fairly large number of keys, each designed to control specific functions. And since we've reached this subject, it's also interesting to mention the fact that this remote will work quite well with up to 18 devices at a time, which it controls via infra-red sensors (sorry, no RF).
The setup process is also a fairly simple one and can be carried out directly on the remote or via the Internet, which is the same method used for upgrading this thing's firmware. Furthermore, users can easily program this gadget in order to display their favorite channel logos on the screen of the remote, and the remote will automatically tune to that channel by sending a macro when the logo is selected.
Other interesting and useful features provided by this remote are the brand search, which will allow the user to search through all brands in the remote's memory, learning, permitting users to copy functions of the original remote to the keypad of the Xsight, and, very importantly, volume lock for volume control of one device when in a different mode, definable by the user.
Additionally, the Xsight Touch remote control provides Keypad backlighting, an LCD clock, as well as a Li-Ion battery, rechargeable via the provided cradle.
The price of the Xsight Touch Universal Remote Control presented by One for All is actually pretty steep, since would-be customers will have to cough up around 200 Euro for this thing (256 US dollars).
We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed.
