While most people typically associate the concept of a network-attached storage unit (or NAS) to one of those multi-TB packing, extremely expensive devices used for backup by mid-size companies, the truth of the matter is that these products have become a lot more friendly over the past couple of years, now targeting even home users and SMBs, both in terms of ease of use and pricing.

And that's exactly the case with the future eTRAYz 2-Bay 4TB NAS unit presented by Xtreamer, which will provide quite an interesting set of features, while managing to maintain the price point at an almost unbelievably-low value, namely just 100 Euro normal price and a very interesting 59 Euro special introductory price (when this thing will hit the shelves in November 2009).

According to the company, its eTRAYz NAS unit (quite a rap artist-sounding name, ain't it?) supports 2 x 2TB SATA HDDs (obviously, not included in the sales package) and features a RapidShare-like gateway (also further details on this issue have not been provided), which will help users manage their files in a fast and easy manner, as well as access them from pretty much any computer with an Internet connection.

Furthermore, the device also sports a torrent download engine (Jdownloader) built within its software, which means that users won't have to load their computers' CPUs with the extra burden represented by the torrent downloads.

And if you're wondering (and for good reason) how Xtreamer has managed to get such a low price for its NAS and still maintain a profit margin, the company has got an answer for that too, claiming that it decided not to be “greedy;” plus, it has got as partner a very powerful CE OEM manufacturer. Well, guess that only practical tests will prove whether those 59 Euro are well spent or not.

I purchased an extreamer and the etrayz. The etrayz worked for about 2 weeks and had to be returned. They sent me a new one without a power cord and I am still waiting for them to send me one. It's been 2 months an counting. Like your mother used to say: if it's too good to be true, it probably is.
