As we all know only too well, the purpose of a photo frame is to display a certain photograph, while also protecting it. To some extent, that's also the case with modern digital photo frames, apart from the fact that they're not really “protecting” anything and that they can actually showcase a lot more than just one picture.
Furthermore, some of the latest devices of this type available on the market also deliver extensive networking options, and not just of the Ethernet and Wi-Fi types, but also of the “social” type. And that's exactly the case with the latest frame from
eStarling, the 802.11n Touchscreen Connected Frame, which provides a very interesting range of specs and features.
So, first of all, as its name hints, we're talking about an 802.11n-compliant digital frame, which means that it can attain transfer speeds of up to 150 Mbps, as well as a functioning range of around 230 feet (70 meters). This feature can really come in handy for moving
photos from a PC to the frame's built-in 2GB flash memory, but also for securely (WEP64, WEP128, WPA1, WPA2) uploading/downloading photos from Gmail, Facebook, Picasa, Flickr and other websites.
Oh, and since we're on this issue, we'll also have to say that this thing even features its own twitter client, as well as video inbox, for receiving and displaying video clips from the Internet.
Now, moving right along to the most important feature of the digital photo frame, the display. Hence, what we're talking about here is a 10.2-inch full-touchscreen panel, able to provide an 800 x 480 pixels resolution, with a
split-screen design for right-sized image presentation. The device incorporates an SD slot, for accessing photos directly from a memory card, as well as an Ethernet connector, if a Wi-Fi network doesn't happen to be available.
Quite obviously, one shouldn't expect this thing to come cheap, given its features, so the $249.9 shouldn't really be a surprise for anyone.
