iHome the no.1 brand in the iPod Electronics market and its iPod Clock Radio has become the no. 1 selling iPod accessory in North America.

As a result of its unprecedented success, iHome has expanded its product line with portable speakers and home stereo systems that incorporate the innovative features and custom designs that iHome is known for, and the iHM77BC speakers illustrate that perfectly.

Design

She says: At first sight, you cannot help to think that the iHM77BC portable speakers are in fact toys that you'd buy for your kid to keep him/her entertained. Measuring 2 x 2 x 2 inches, they feature rubberized paint texture for amazing look and soft feel. Available in black, red and silver, they attach magnetically in a capsule shape for ultimate portability, then separate and extend for surprisingly big stereo sound that you won't definitely believe is for real.

In a nutshell, they may look funky, cute and childlike, but they definitely do their job, and quite frankly, much better than some speakers that claim to be highly professional.

He says: Design-wise, the capsule speakers from iHome are indeed pretty strange. After all, it's not everyday that you see a couple of speakers that look just like one of those Kinder surprise chocolate eggs we loved so much as kids.

Now, leaving the sweets aside, the truth of the matter is that the speakers are quite practical. First of all, they're very easy to carry around, given their size (2 x 2 x 2 inches), weight (roughly around 16 grams) and compact form factor. Then, they can be taken apart and used separately for “stereo sound”, fast and easy.

It's also interesting to note that the speakers have a rubberized paint texture, which offers a very pleasurable experience when touched. Plus, as a bonus, they're available in several colors, not that it made any difference.

Features

She says: The iHM77BC speakers are perfect not only for your iPod and iPhone, but also for your MacBook or any laptop and MP3 player for that matter. They come with built-in Lithium-Ion rechargeable batteries and feature vacuum bass expansion, as well as USB charging.

He says: While the design of the iHM77BC portable speakers obviously plays a very important role, its features (while not exactly very numerous) are also pretty interesting. For example, it's important to mention the fact that this speaker system will work just fine with just about any device equipped with a 3.5-mm audio jack, whether we're talking about iPod/iPhone models, MP3 players or other portable devices.

Furthermore, these tiny speakers can also prove to be quite an interesting accessory (wouldn't really call them a peripheral) to the some portable computing systems as well, such as any notebook or laptop.

Another factor worth mentioning about these things is that they don't actually require an external power source, since they've been equipped with rechargeable batteries, which means that they offer a much improved level of portability and versatility.

Performance

She says: What's great about these speakers is they will not only charm you with their pretty looks, but they will also win you over with their custom tuned vacuum bass, designed for low frequency response and sound beyond size. You don't have to worry that they won't match a certain generation of iPods or a specific type of iPhone, as they play all iPod and iPhone models, as well as other audio devices that sport a 3.5mm audio jack.

He says: When talking about performance in the case of speakers, the main issue that has to be tackled is that of the sound, whether we're talking about quality or power. The speakers from iHome provide a fairly OK amount of power, given their size (4W), as well as several a 4-ohm impedance, a frequency response range of 218Hz-20kHz, plus a signal to noise ratio of 52dB.

Leaving the figures aside, you can also expect this speaker system to sound quite good, as its features a custom-tuned vacuum bass design for low frequency response. Plus, since each speaker contains a built-in amplifier powered by the rechargeable battery, you can be quite sure that the iHM77BC will be able to generate the same quality sound throughout its entire period of operation (or at least for as long as the batteries are fully-charged.

User Friendly

She says: There are probably only few speakers that can claim they are as user friendly as the iHM77BC from iHome, if any. They can be used by people at all ages (who have the capacity to plug a cable into the speakers and the audio device that is) and they can fit in a stylish and also a cheerful home décor. They are so cute that no one could resist them, like candy to a child.

He says: There's really no point in debating whether the iHM77BC Portable Multimedia Speakers are user-friendly or not, because the answer is a pretty straightforward one. Just about anyone can use these things, since all they'll ever have to do is simply hook them up to their audio source via the cable included in the package.

Value for Money

She says: Considering the fact that these speakers retail for approximately 50 US dollars, what more is there to say. Even if they don't make it for twenty years, serving your audiophile expectations, that's 50 bucks we are talking here. If you ask me, that more than worth it.

He says: This is pretty much a “love it or leave it” product. The price point is not particularly high, but we're certainly not talking about a “dirty-cheap” device, either. So, if you've liked it after first toying around with it, you'll most likely purchase it.

Cool Factor

She says: It's more than clear that the iHM77BC speakers from iHome are addressed to middle class consumers, who want quality, but at an affordable price, and that's exactly what they provide. Actually they have more to give than that, as they also bring cuteness and the sudden tug to smile and hug your close ones when you see them.

He says: The device from i Home has what it takes to be cool and attractive even on the future. It has what we might call an “avantgarde” design, plus some pretty OK features and specs on the side. But what will surely impress users on the future is their capacity to “collapse”, which means that they'll be very easy to carry around.
