Regardless of just how good glass screens may look on a phone, nobody can deny the fact they can easily shatter into a million of tiny pieces, recent statistics claiming the iPhone 4 is almost twice as prone to this type of accidents then the 3G S.
And when you come to think of it, this does indeed make sense, since the iPhone 4 doubled the number of glass surfaces used compared to the previous generation and, although
Apple did claim this aluminosilicate glass is more resilient things seem to be quite different,
SquareTrade having the numbers to prove it.
According to them, 3.9 percent of all
iPhone 4 owners have reported a cracked screen within the first four months compared to just 2.1 percent of 3G S users.
The number of accidents that involve shattering glass panes has also gone up since this problem seems to affect 82 percent of all the iPhone 4 devices that need to be serviced compared to 76 percent on the previous generation iPhone.
To add to the list, the percentage of accidents involving the iPhone 4 have also increased by 68% compared to the previous generation model, since 4.7% of iPhone 4 owners reported an accident, compared to 2.8% of iPhone 3G S users.
Although it certainly seems that the iPhone 4 is more prone to
accidents then its predecessor, the study concludes that “the iPhone is still a very well constructed device, with a non-accident malfunction rate much lower than most other consumer electronics,” so no need to worry, right?
