After hearing that a MacBook Air notebook
survived a major plane crash, Apple can now benefit from another big publicity boost. It seems that one of its biggest sellers, the iPod Classic, also proved to be indestructible.
Andrew Robulack, a resident of Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada tells the full story on his personal
blog. He is the one to have found an iPod Classic emerging from a block of ice while he was taking a walk. At first, he mistook with a piece of canine excrement, a common thing in Whitehorse, this time of year, as he gladly informs us. But then he noticed that the unidentified frozen object had a familiar rectangular shape. By now, we bet that even tribe people can recognize Apple's famous portable music player.
Obviously, he got the frozen iPod out of the ice in which he thinks it had been laying “since early winter” and took it home to see whether it still worked. Incredibly, after only a few minutes of charging, the player booted up and seemed in full operating order. Of course, it needed some cleaning, but it even displayed the correct date.
Andrew was as impressed as any of us would have been. He even compared it to an “ice age caveman emerging from the depths of an ancient glacier,” the only difference being that this iPod managed to stay alive, so to say. After the mud was wiped out, the iPod revealed that the only damages were a few scratches and some condensation under the screen; otherwise, it worked just fine.
The man also found a name tag attached to it, but he doesn't mention any further information about the possible owner. However, he gives the person about a week to contact him. Otherwise, he will go by “finder's keepers ” rule. Some advice him to contact Apple in order for the maker to replace the iPod with a new one. This wouldn't surprise anyone, given the fact this story is the best publicity it could get, especially on the Canadian market.
