Have you noticed that we tend to do everything on the move? “On the move and portable” should be the real motto (thinking Lion King, “What's a motto? Nothing, what's a motto with you?”) of our society. And because we tend to do things on the run, encryption has become a necessity. This reminds me of iStorage and its latest range of devices for what it considers “unparalleled” hardware encryption.
These systems are meant to allow SMEs, organizations and home users to protect and control the access to their corporate and personal data. Called iStorage DigiSAFE DeskCrypt and DigiSAFE DiskCrypt Mobile, these devices offer two-factor authentication and a superior level of data security by “real-time” encrypting your storage mediums on a hardware level. With the two-level authentication you'll have to use a Smartcard and a PIN number in order to gain access to the actual hard drive.
The DiskCrypt Mobile is designed for use with external hard drives and will encrypt data without any degradation in performance. The DeskCrypt is... the DiskCrypt except it is designed to sit between the SATA connector and the hard drive. There is no additional software needed to run the device and it is completely independent of the OS.
John Michael, Managing Director of iStorage, stated that “Data loss means big trouble for business. With so many incidents hitting the headlines on an ever more frequent basis regarding loss of highly sensitive and confidential data, iStorage products fill a massive void that currently exists in the market. In the absence of stricter government legislation to better protect data saved on storage devices such as portable
hard drives and
USB sticks, our new devices represent an opportunity for companies to set the standard. Businesses can now demonstrate responsibility through best practice procedures to ensure confidential and sensitive data is safe at all times.”
The Mobile version is available for 151.80 pounds (around 256.98 USD), while the DeskCrypt will be made available in September 2009 for 143.75 pounds (that's 243.35 USD).
